One There is Above All Others
Oh, How He Loves!
BIBLE REFERENCE:

Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in
peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
2 Corinthians 13:11

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's
commandments, and abide in his love.
John 15:10

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us. Ephesians 2:4

Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:16

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:9,10

But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;  That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7

HYMN HISTORY:

The lyrics to this hymn were written by Miss Marianne Nunn. Miss Nunn was born in Colchester, Essex, England on May 17th. 1778. She lived much in retirement and was never married. The hymn, "One There is Above All Others," was first published by her brother John Nunn, a minister, in a book "Psalms and Hymns". It was first brought to America by a Dr. Leavitt in "The Christian Lyre" in 1830 and has been repeated much there since. How Miss Nunn must have enjoyed the love of Christ as she penned these lines! Paul the Apostle could say, "The love of Christ constraineth us". In 1847 Miss Marianne Nunn went to that Friend she had found on earth and whose love meant so much to her.

Hubert Platt Main was the son of Sylvester Main, Hubert attended singing school until 1854, when he went to New York City and worked as an errand boy in a wallpaper house. In April 1855, he became an errand boy in the Bristow & Morse piano company. That same year, he helped his father edit the Sunday School Lute songbook by Isaac Woodbury. In 1867, Main was called to fill a position in William Bradbury’s publishing house. Following Bradbury’s death in 1868, the Biglow & Main publishers were formed as its successor. In addition to publishing, Main wrote over 1,000 pieces of music—part song, singing school songs, Sunday School music, hymns, anthems, etc. He also collected music books; in 1891, he sold his collection of over 3,500 volumes to the Newberry Library in Chicago, Illinois, where they were known as the “Main Library.”
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

The love of God is best manifested toward man by the grace of God. God showed mercy in love when He sent His son to bear our sins in His own body on the cross. The grace of God is nothing less than the unlimited love of God expressed in the gift of His Son, our Saviour.   The Bible tells us not to grieve the Holy Spirit, our God is a jealous God and wants us to love Him with all our heart, soul and mind.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Deuteronomy 6:5

We are to love God with all our heart, and soul, and might. That is:
